Commuter Parking Options for Non-Residents at Maplewood Train Station
Most parking spaces near the Maplewood Train Station are either short-term for downtown visitors or exclusive to Maplewood residents with a permit.
If you're a non-resident, you have a few options:
- NJ Transit Lots: There are two NJ Transit parking lots near the station (see the map here). These lots operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are relatively small, so it's best to arrive early to secure a spot.
- Jitney Service: While non-residents cannot buy an annual Jitney Pass, you can still ride the Maplewood Jitney for a $3 per ride fare. The Jitney runs from 6 AM to 9 AM and from 6 PM to 9 PM, providing transportation to the train station. You can find the schedule here.
- Alternative Public Transit: You can take the 70 Bus to Millburn and catch a train from there.
Non-Commuter Parking Guidelines
(Parking for Local Errands or Train Access)
In Maplewood Township, non-commuter parking refers to short-term parking for purposes such as running errands or accessing public transit.
Throughout the Township, if you are running errands in the village, there are multiple parking lots, and most streets have parking limits that should be able to accommodate you.
However, if you need longer than 2 hours, such as needing to go on the train for an appointment, the following are some streets you can use. Look for signage that does not say time-limited parking. For example, Commuter Parking areas, which only limit parking between 6 AM and 9 AM:
- Baker Street
- Winthrop Place
- Ridgewood Terrace
- Lenox
- Maplewood Avenue
Parking Signage & Regulations
Throughout the Township, street signage clearly indicates parking time limits and regulations. These rules are in place to maintain safety and ensure fair access to parking in residential and commercial areas.
For detailed parking rules by street, please refer to:
Chapter 257: Vehicles and Traffic – Article VI: Schedules
This section includes time limits and parking regulations by location.
Chapter 257: Vehicles and Traffic - Schedule XVII: Time Limit Parking
This section should satisfy the question of how long someone can park where, depending on the day and hours, as well as the location on said street.
Generally, parking enforcement ends either at 4:00 PM or 6:00 PM, depending on the street, and overnight parking goes into effect at 2:00 AM
