Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Annual License Renewal Application
- Application Specific Link
- Cost: Plenary Retail Consumption License: $2,400.00 | Plenary Retail Distribution License: $1,938.00 | Seasonal Retail Distribution License: $1,237.50 | Club License: $150.00
- Requirements: Tax Clearance from the State Tax Division, payment to the State through POSSE (Link to POSSE to pay the State)
- Description: Using this application, you can trigger the review of your ABC license and if conditionally approved, a resolution will be made requesting approval from the Maplewood Township Committee.
Banner Application

- Cost: $25 Per Occasion
- Requirements: Dimension and other requirements (select banner location): Banners on Springfield Ave: Banners must be no longer than 20ft in length and 30inches in height. Banners must have metal grommets spaced no more than 18 inches apart along the entire top of the banner. Banner must also have metal grommets in all (4) corners. Banners must have wind slits, at least one for every 2 feet of banner length
- Description: Banners are put up at the corner of Indiana Street and Springfield Avenue, for a maximum of two weeks
Bingo and Raffle Application

- Requirements: Active Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission License (If you need to register or renew, click here)

- Description: The Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission (Often shortened to LGCCC) requires an active license and application to host games of chance. This includes various types of bingo games and raffles and you can learn of the various games through the LGCCC.
Block Party Application

- Description: This application allows for block parties on primarily side streets. Having a block party on a main thoroughfare will require a review
Cannabis License Renewal Application

- Requirements: Reporting any changes since last renewal and being in good standing
- Description: The application will trigger the review of your cannabis license and if conditionally approved, a resolution will be made requesting approval from the Maplewood Township Committee
Canning Permission Letter
- Application: You can e-mail the Clerk requesting a permission letter
- Cost: $0.00
- Requirements: Canning must be done in a stationary location, with the days and hours listed in your e-mail. In addition, you need to submit a letter of permission from the business or property owner.
Canvasing & Solicitation Application
- Application Specific Link
- Cost: $30.00
- Requirements: Copy of ID, Passport type photos, and NJ Business Certificate – Applicant should also expect a background check and fingerprinting to be done
- Description: A canvassing and solicitation application is for anyone, whether they live in the city or not, who goes from place to place (on foot, by vehicle, or any other means of transportation) to ask for orders or sell goods, services, or personal property. This can include selling items for future delivery or offering services to be performed later, even if no payment is taken upfront. The term "solicitor" or "canvasser" also includes people conducting polls or surveys, or distributing advertisements and flyers door-to-door or on the street.

Dumpster Permit Application

- Cost: $50.00
- Requirements: Certificate of Insurance naming the Township of Maplewood as an additional insured in an amount not less than $300,000.00 and if approved, cones and lighting around the dumpster to alert those driving on the road.
- Description: Dumpster permits allow for the placement of a dumpster or bagster on a public street for up to 7 days per application.
Filming License Application

- Indemnity Agreement: A written agreement where the applicant agrees to indemnify the township from liability and reimburse for any out-of-pocket expenses (e.g., police, fire, public works).
- Consent from Affected Parties: Written consent from property owners, business owners, and residents who may be impacted by the filming. This includes details about the filming location, dates, and contact info. Consent documents must be submitted to the Clerk’s Office (via the application) before the permit can be issued.
- Insurance: Proof of insurance covering:
- Description: A filming permit is required for anyone or any organization wishing to film on public property within the Township of Maplewood. This includes filming for commercial or educational purposes, using equipment like lights, cables, trucks, trailers, or generators in public areas such as streets, sidewalks, or parks. The permit covers the setup, filming, and breakdown of the production. News story filming is not included in this requirement.

Garage and Yard Sale Application

- Requirements: Is solely for residential properties, can only be held between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and can only be done for 4 consecutive days, and permits can only be issued twice within a twelve-month period.

- Description: Jitney Pass, Commuter Parking, Combo (Commuter + Jitney), Merchant Parking, Residential Parking, Villa Terrace, Raymond Terrace, Overnight Parking, Highland Parking, Prospect Street Lot, Woodland 24 Hour Lot, and Yale Street Lot.

Peddlers License Application

- Cost: Varies depending on the type of goods sold
- Requirements:
- Description: A peddler or hawker is an individual who travels from place to place or house to house along the streets, carrying goods, wares, and merchandise for the purpose of selling and delivering them directly to consumers. This includes individuals who may have goods sent from location to location to facilitate sales and delivery. The primary intent is to offer products directly to the public in a mobile and accessible manner, ensuring goods are brought to the consumer’s doorstep.
Sidewalk Cafe Application

- Cost: $150.00
- Requirements: 1. Three sets of plans including layout and composition of tables (hand sketch acceptable).
- 2. Hold Harmless Agreement.
- 3. Certificate of Insurance Naming the Township of Maplewood as an additional insured – Bodily Injury/Property Damage ($1,000,000).
- 4. If the building owner is not the applicant, a written consent form from the building owner must be admitted.
- Description: The Sidewalk Café Application covers less space than the Street Eatery application and is just for directly in front of someone’s store and is exclusively for those selling food.
Sidewalk Retail Services Permit

- Cost: $25.00 Application, $50 for recycling containers, and $25.00 if barricades, cones, no parking signs, etc are required
- Requirements: Certificate of Insurance (pursuant to Municipal Ordinance, a Certificate of Insurance in the amount of $1,000,000.00 must accompany this application)
- Description: The Sidewalk Retail Services Permit application covers less space than the Street Eatery application and is just for directly in front of someone’s store and is exclusively for those selling merchandise.
Special Event Application

- Requirements: Certificate of Insurance (pursuant to Municipal Ordinance, a Certificate of Insurance in the amount of $1,000,000.00 must accompany this application)
- Description: A special event application is required for events which are meant to be attended by 50 people or more.
Street Eatery (Streatery) Application [The Township Has Hit Its 2025 Limit]
- Application Specific Link
- Cost: $425 Minimum
- Requirements: Proof of insurance naming Maplewood Township as additional insured and meeting the minimum requirements set in Ordinance 3086-23.
- Signed Hold Harmless Agreement (Example in a .doc format)

- Detailed information and locations of proposed lighting, structural elements and furniture
- If you plan to use outdoor heating equipment, you must include page 2 with your application
- If you plan to extend your liquor license to the streatery, you must include your current ABC extension of premises permit from the state ABC.
- Description: A streatery is a designated curbside space within the public right-of-way, converted for seasonal outdoor dining use. This space is specifically allocated for the adjacent (or approved) food establishment, allowing for the installation of seating, tables, umbrellas, planters, lighting, space heaters, and safety barriers, as authorized by the Township of Maplewood. The streatery is intended for the exclusive use of the approved business during its operating hours. After the business closes, the space will revert to a parklet for public use.

Marriage Application

- Requirements: Both spouses and their witnesses over 18 are required to bring a State or Federally-issued photo ID. This witness should know both parties, as they are signing a legal document.
- In addition, it is required for at least one of the two people getting married to live in Maplewood or both need to not be citizens of New Jersey.
